Coronavirus Update - Latest News

May 17th 2021

It has been confirmed by the Prime Minister that England will be moving to step 3 of the recovery roadmap on May 17.

For full details about what this means for tennis nationally, see page 3 here:

For full details about what this means for squash nationally, see here:

Delighted as we are to welcome back members to the clubhouse, this latest step has a particular impact on our operation. Please read carefully the following overview of what is now permitted. It is not meant to be an exhaustive list and if you are unsure about how any of this will affect you individually please ask the club. With the co-operation of our wonderful members and guests, we can move forward into this next stage both healthily and securely. The new guidelines for squash have already been issued.

Social distancing is to be maintained before and after all sporting activity

The clubhouse is open to CTSC members and visitors

Welcome back Debbie and Sheila. We have missed you!

Until further notice, the opening hours of the clubhouse will be:

Weekdays: 09.30 – 1300 and 16.30 – 22.00

Saturdays: 09.30 – 18.00

Sundays: 09.30 – 16.00

There should be a maximum of 4 people at any one table in the clubhouse (including the sweatbar and the balcony) for social distancing reasons

As there is a limited number of tables, members and visitors must wait to be seated at staff discretion

Always wear a mask when standing in the clubhouse

You may sit at the tables without a mask

All payments made in the clubhouse for drinks, lights etc must be contactless. A card reader will be brought to the table

The changing rooms and the showers remain closed to squash and tennis players

Transit through the changing rooms to the lavatories is permitted

Access to the lavatories is via the back door only as traffic in the lounge must be minimised

There should be a maximum of six people or two households when spectating squash and observers must maintain social distancing rules and wear masks.

General Committee/16 May 2021

March 2021

There is better news on the horizon after the Government's latest roadmap to ease lockdown was published.

Tennis will be back from the 29th March. Squash will be back from the 12th April.

The LTA have provided a helpful summary below. The clubhouse will remain closed until further notice. Sign up for club email or follow us on social media for the latest announcements. In the meantime #staysafe and start getting ready to get back on court.

January 2021

With a National Lockdown in force, the club regrettably has had to close all courts until further notice. All courts are currently out-of-bounds and may not be used for any purpose, until the club is able to re-open, or there is a change to the current rules. Our sport governing bodies are in constant contact with the Government and are lobbying to get access to courts as soon as is safe.

In the meantime, stay safe and we hope to be back on court soon.

The country's new 3 Tier approach to #Covid19 allows tennis to be played both outdoors and indoors with a variety of restrictions. The great news for outdoor tennis is that even in Tier 3, tennis can be played as both singles and doubles. Coaching of individuals and groups is also allowed. There are naturally some limitations. Please use your common sense, keep your fellow visitors and members safe and please always 'distance' and #staysafe.

Monday 1st of June 2020

Following the further easing of restrictions in England from 1 June announced by the Prime Minister on Thursday evening (28 May) and the publication of detailed Government guidance on Sunday (31 May), the Government has confirmed what these measures mean in relation to tennis.

Players from different households can now play doubles together as long as they stay two metres apart as far as possible, and small group coaching for up to six people (including coaches) can resume.

Stay Safe

Monday 11th May 2020 - Tennis Courts Open for Members Only

The club's tennis courts will be re-opening for Members from Wednesday 13th May. Our coaching partner CTA Sussex will be also be providing 1 to 1 coaching. Our office and clubhouse remain closed until further notice, so we regret we are unable to take court bookings for visitors at this time. We will be working on providing a solution in the near future.

Our tennis courts are only open for Singles play with a single individual from another household or for Doubles between household members. It is crucial that these rules are adhered to. We ask that players properly wash/sanitise their hands before entering a court. Please ensure that all surfaces you touch are wiped down after playing. It is recommended that each player provide their own clearly marked balls and that you only handle your own balls when serving.

Please leave the premises immediately after playing. The balcony area is also unavailable.

Please join our mailing list, follow us on Facebook or Twitter to stay up to date with the latest news and information.

More guidance is provided by the Lawn Tennis Association here

You can join the club online and spread your payments monthly by clicking here. We will then provide you with a membership number and pin to access our online court booking system.

Stay Safe

More than ever, your General Committee's highest priorities must be for the health and well-being of members and staff and for the financial future of your Club.

Now, in the light of the Government's Covid-19 pronouncements, the General Committee has had to take the decision to close the office with effect from Wednesday 1st April. Regrettably, from this date, no contact with the office will be possible until we reopen.

We have taken the decision to furlough the contracted staff with effect from this date and we have been 'closing down ' the Club over the past week in readiness to be raring to go again as soon as we are permitted to do so.

This means that we will only be able to deal with Membership renewals when we reopen. It is as yet unknown how long the closure will be but rest assured that we will be monitoring advice from the government with a view to reopening the Club and all its facilities at the first possible opportunity.

The General Committee recognise that members, therefore, will be paying subscriptions for some part of their membership year even though the Club is closed and so we will need to make adjustments at your renewal to ensure that is not the case. We have also decided, in the light of the poor economic background being faced by our members, to freeze the membership rates for 2020/21 at the current level.

Therefore we will deal with your next subscription renewal as follows:

For members paying annually, we will extend your renewal period by the period the Club has to be closed. So, for example, if the Club has to be closed for three months your subscription period will be extended from one year to 15 months. In effect suspending your membership for the period, the Club is closed.

For members paying monthly, this action would be of no benefit you. So for members paying monthly, we will be refunding any payments made for the period the Club is closed as soon as we reopen.

To reiterate and emphasise, no member will have to forfeit subscriptions for the period the Club has to be closed, and no action has to be taken by the member until contacted by the Club when we reopen.

However, should members paying annually be willing to renew their subscriptions on their original renewal date thereby donating your subscriptions, related to the period of closure, to the Club then please let the Club know of this request during your renewal process. Similarly, should members who pay monthly not wish to receive a refund then please let the Club know prior to or on our reopening.

If we do not hear from you we will automatically refund any monthly subscriptions paid for when the Club is closed or extend your renewal date for members paying annually when we reopen.

We appreciate that this is a worrying and difficult time for everyone given the unprecedented circumstances of the pandemic. The General Committee would like to thank you in advance for your understanding, support, and cooperation.

Over the previous weeks, we have followed the advice provided by the government and our affiliated sporting bodies, which has led to the closure of our clubhouse, squash courts, and restrictions on the use of the tennis courts. Following the government’s latest announcement in the COVID-19 campaign, Crowborough Tennis and Squash Club have had to take the decision to close the remainder of the site – the outdoor tennis courts – with immediate effect.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly; however, it is centrally important that we as a club support the national strategy in the fight against coronavirus.

It is as yet unknown how long the closure will be. We will be monitoring advice from the government with a view to reopening the club and all its facilities at the first appropriate opportunity.

We appreciate that this is a worrying and difficult time for everyone given the unprecedented circumstances of the pandemic. CTSC would like to thank you in advance for your understanding, support, and co-operation.

We understand that this will prompt questions from our members, visitors and friends so please check our website, Facebook and Twitter platforms for the latest updates.

Stay at home, keep active and keep safe.
