The LTA Sussex area held their annual awards on Saturday 19th November 2011 at Wickwoods Country Club. Crowborough Tennis and Squash Club were shortlisted for some awards and were kindly invited to attend the ceremony.
Our Club were asked to attend this ceremony and so six representatives, Sandy Young, Dawn Berndt, Alan Cotter, Alan Fearnley, Stacey Sargant and Amanda Thompson, went along more in hope than expectation.
There were a large number of awards presented during the afternoon, especially to the county’s junior players. Based on the stories and achievements highlighted during the ceremony, junior tennis in Sussex is not only thriving but our juniors are excelling both nationally and internationally. Our own Elliot Jones was runner-up in the Sussex U18s boys section.
We were also pleased to learn that our Head Coach, Dan Slade, was shortlisted for Coach of the Year. Unfortunately Dan just missed out on winning. Congratulations on being shortlisted and keep up the good work!
CT&SC were shortlisted for Club Volunteer of the Year for our longstanding member Cory Roberts. We are delighted to report that Cory was in fact the winner. Congratulations to Cory and a huge thank you for all your efforts over the years, particularly in your current role as Match Secretary.
The final award we were shortlisted for was Club of the Year. The LTA were looking for a club that had Clubmark accreditation, was investing in its own future and encouraging junior players. The installation of floodlights on courts 1 to 4 last winter with the help of an LTA grant, a very successful Junior Open which attracted 115 entrants from across the country and the launch of the new revamped website were all specifically mentioned by the Chairman of Sussex tennis as reasons why Crowborough Tennis and Squash Club were named as LTA Sussex Club of the Year 2011.
Naturally we are delighted to achieve this award which recognises the progress we have made since we refocused our efforts following the relocation disappointment.
Thank you to everyone who has helped to make Crowborough Tennis and Squash Club such a successful club.
